New Amsterdam Market was founded in 2005 with a mission to revive the public market as a civic institution.

From 2007 to 2014, we held monthly and then weekly markets, as well as numerous festivals and events, at the Old Fulton Fish Market in lower Manhattan, showcasing pioneering food purveyors and producers from the Northeast.

We remain committed to reintroducing public markets as mechanisms to build a more equitable and sustainable food system, and will be resuming our activities in 2026.
