INTERNATIONAL MEATS LOCAL
Today we join forces with the Street Vendor Project Vendy Awards and welcome five traditional NYC street vendors producing their specialties with humanely raised meats and other locally sourced ingredients.
This delicious event will offer vendors the opportunity to explore using ingredients which reflect the very origins of street food: seasonal produce and meats from nearby farms. The prevalence of industrialized agriculture has separated us from this connection which still exists in so-called "less developed" parts of the world. By providing Vendy vendors with the same ingredients they were likely accustomed to using

at home, we will begin exploring the issues involved with providing greater access to local sourcing to these hard-working participants of New York City's food scene, and how this might help expand their businesses to customers who seek such sourcing.
For this event, all produce in season will be sourced from Union Square Greenmarket farms; eggs will be sourced from Knoll Krest Farm (also at Union Square Greenmarket); pork and beef will be sourced from the Marlow and Daughters butcher shop in Williamsburg; chicken will come from Bo Bo poultry; and we are experimenting with using masa produced by Hot Bread Kitchen with New York State corn. Specialties offers will include:
Taiwanese beef and kimchi dumplings by A-pous
Mexican egg and chorizo dumplings by Eggstravaganza
Pork tamales by Guadelupes Tamales
Chicken pupusas by Solber Pupusas
Jamaican Jerk Chicken by Veronica's Kitchen.
Tickets are $20 and include generous portions of all five street dishes!
